Shania Twain - The Specials [Live In Concert] (2001)

This video features her TV specials Winter Break & Come On Over. She is the only female artist in US history to achieve back to back Diamond Awards (sales of 10 million) selling albums. With her crossover appeal to both the Countryand the Pop/Rock markets, Shania Twain enjoyed blockbuster success and fame. Her appeal led directly to a pair of television specials that are packaged together on this release. To celebrate her smash Come On Over album, country crossover superstar Shania Twain starred in two 1999 TV specials. Winter Break finds Twain in balmy Miami Beach for an outdoor concert belting out hits like "Man! I Feel Like a Woman!" along with the Backstreet Boys (who perform with and without her) and Elton John, who duets with the star on surprisingly soulful versions of "You're Still the One" and "Something About the Way You Look Tonight." Thrown in are clips of Twain tooling around her
wintry homeland, Canada. The Come On Over special features Twain in a Dallas concert that, in addition to bouncy hits like the title song, goes on cutesy detours with the star, shown hanging out in the Dallas Cowboys locker room, with the team in practice, and with--yes--the Cowboy cheerleaders. The ultimate cheerleader, Twain grinningly leads her audience through her sing-song tunes, which is more than enough to sate her fans. The video also includes photographs of Shania in her native Canada and of the home in which she grew up and learned to love music. ~ Perry Seibert, All Movie Guide

Shania Twain - Any Man Of Mine (2007)

Product Description
From The Impact Series, Songs That Changed The World - featuring Shania Twain: Any Man Of Mine appealed to women everywhere because of the sassy and assertive tone of the lyrics. Shania Twain transcended all the genres and set the music industry on its ear. She combined country songs with pop style production and marketing, using video to create a dynamic image, injecting country with a more uptown style, and taking control of her career like no female had ever done in Nashville before. The magnitude of her impact set a new standard for country music, but also had far reaching influence in fashion, business and social circles. Shania set new benchmarks for everybody in country music. Beginning with Any Man of Mine, Shania gave every female artist in country music permission and freedom to be themselves. It was a new form of feminism. She turned the tables with her “I love my man, but I love me too” lyrics.
But, the most obvious influence of Shania on country music has been an outstanding series of music videos that redefined its image. ~ Perry Seibert, All Movie Guide

Kenny Rogers - The Journey

Kenny Rogers: The Journey is a solid and engaging account of Legendary Entertainer and Multiple Grammy® Award-winner, Kenny Rogers 40 years, lengthy career in music, certain to teach any viewer something they didn't know about the many chapters in the superstar's life as an artist. A documentary, The Journey is a mix of concert footage (most of it archival) and interviews with Rogers, as well as numerous insights from key people in his history of making hit records. The overall message is that Rogers has been a class act from the very beginning, certain of his work ethic as well as his talent and ability to choose the right collaborators. High points include Rogers' reunion with the Bobby Doyle Three, the jazz-vocal group he joined right out of high school, and a smooth duet with Willie Nelson on Irving Berlin's "Blue Skies" (a performance in which Rogers resurrects his old skills playing upright bass). There's a lot discussion about Rogers' instincts for finding great duet partners of the female variety: Dottie West, Kim Carnes, Dolly Parton, and even Sheena Easton (who, apparently, didn't get along with Rogers too well). Various insights about the early stages of Rogers' musical evolution are very interesting, especially his comments about the pop-folk group the New Christy Minstrels proving too restricting, giving rise to Rogers' soft-rock band the First Edition, followed by a solo career he feared would become "too country" with his smash hit, "Lucille." Also a lot of fun:
Lionel Richie's self-effacing account of producing Rogers' successful attempt at a country-R&B
crossover, "Lady." --Tom Keogh

Kenny Rogers - Live by Request

kenny Rogers performed this concert on a warm environment between his fans and his music lovers. He is great, romantic, and very carismatic. The only drawback is that every request is considered as a unique track.Though a little older and a little more gruff, Kenny Rogers is still a charmer who knows how to rope in an audience and keep them happily captive. Kenny Rogers: Live by Request (2001) is an hour and a half of the country artist's greatest hits and audience favorites backed by a tight and smooth band. Starting with an upbeat "Islands in the Stream" (solo, no Dolly), he sets the pace for a lively, friendly show. Following the usual format of A&E's Live by Request series, fans from North America call in to talk to Kenny and ask him to sing a song for them.
Seventeen songs are featured, including "Daytime Friends," "Lucille," "Lady," "Coward of the
Country," "We've Got Tonight," "Ruby, Don't Take Your Love to Town," "Love Will Turn You Around," and, of course, "The Gambler." Kenny fans will adore this easygoing performance of popular tunes. I think it will be better to make it with only song tracks. On conclusion this is the
only available DVD for this great singer. Sound format is 5.1 which make the DVD more valuable all in all is a fine DVD that must have for Kenny Rogers fan.--Dana Van Nest

Barry Manilow - The Complete Collection and Then Some (2005) (1 DVD + 4 CD)

Barry Manilow - The Complete Collection and Then Some (2005) (1 DVD + 4 CD)

The story Barry Manilow, his friends and associates tell in the liner notes to his four-CD/one-VHS box set retrospective The Complete Collection And Then Some... is about a contemporary pop songwriter who is reluctantly transformed into an interpretive singer; becomes an easy-listening, commercial pop superstar to his surprise (and, to some extent, dismay); and, through travail, reclaims his original vision by writing and performing neo-classic pop with tinges of jazz and show music. The trouble with this story is that when you play the album, you still hear a lot of earnest, piano-based romantic ballads, the singer's own tunes virtually indistinguishable from those of others. David Martin, co-author of "Can't Smile Without You," frankly admits that he stole the song's title from a greeting card, but Manilow's own lyric collaborators don't dig much deeper. Manilow's real talents lie in arrangement -- he always puts in enough modulations, tempo shifts, and instrumental development to maintain interest -- and in his singing, which retains sincerity and some buoyancy despite the unrelieved plaintiveness of the melodies and lyrics.
Like other box sets assembled in the early '90s, The Complete Collection And Then Some... tipped the scales more toward unreleased material. There were a few newly recorded songs, and a few that had been left off Manilow's regular albums, but the bulk of the previously unreleased material consisted of live performances, demos, and alternate takes. Many of the big hits are only heard in alternate versions, meaning that this was aimed at Manilow fans for whom the original demo of "Mandy," on which the singer accidentally sang "Brandy" (the song's original title), was more valuable. The set also included an hour-long video, Barry Manilow Performances, Volume One: The Highlights, which employed footage from Manilow's television appearances of the 1970s and '80s. ~ William Ruhlmann, All Music Guide

The Three Tenors - Pavarotti, Carreras, Domingo (4 DVDs)

The Three Tenors - Carreras, Domingo Pavarotti in Concert (Complete Recording)
Classical, Opera | 4 DVDs Video | Total size: 21,8GB
Category: Alternative , Hip Hop , lyrics , All-In-One Music

The list of performances by the Three Tenors -- Luciano Pavarotti, Plácido Domingo, and José Carreras -- is not long, and they have recorded only a few albums. Yet they rank among the most successful performers the world of classical music has ever experienced. Their debut concert, held in Rome on July 7, 1990, drew an international television viewership of over one billion people.

Individually, the three tenors were arguably the world's top opera stars of the 1970s and 1980s; often considered rivals, they weren't particularly close. What brought them together was the devastating illness of Carreras, who was diagnosed with leukemia in the summer of 1987 and given a 10 percent chance of survival. A friendship sprang up as Pavarotti and Domingo visited him in the hospital, and after Carreras recovered he suggested that the three join to perform a benefit concert for a leukemia foundation he had created. Held at the end of the World Cup soccer competition, an event with maximum television visibility, the concert succeeded beyond anything Carreras might have imagined. An important behind-the-scenes presence was composer Lalo Schifrin, who arranged favorite operatic selections for the trio; a group consisting of three male singers was a novelty at the time.

The dimensions of the Three Tenors' success became clear when the album Carreras, Domingo, Pavarotti: The Three Tenors in Concert sold over ten million copies and became the best-selling classical album of all time. The tenors reunited for another concert and album at the next World Cup, held in Los Angeles in 1994. Although they had performed together only once in the interim, they repeated their 1990 success at Dodger Stadium on July 16, 1994. Among the audience of 60,000 were California royalty such as future governor Arnold Schwarzenegger, and the concert extended the Tenors' reach into segments of the American music-buying public that otherwise had little contact with classical music. The Three Tenors were now international superstars.

The tenors reunited for a third mega-spectacle at the Paris World Cup in 1998, performing at the Champ de Mars near the Eiffel Tower. Between 1994 and 2003 they performed about 30 concerts at large stadiums around the world, but Pavarotti's stated intention to retire from performing in 2004 seemed likely to put an end to the trio's reign atop classical sales charts. Growth in opera audiences, even as other forms of classical music declined, seemed at least partly attributable to their efforts.

Included
1. The Original Three Tenors Concert (1990)
2. Carreras, Domingo, Pavarotti Mehta in Concert (1994)
3. Carreras, Domingo, Pavarotti Levine - Paris (1998)
4. The Three Tenors Christmas (1999)

Carreras, Domingo, Pavarotti Mehta in Concert (1994)
DVD Video | Video: PAL 720x576 (4:3) MPEG2 | Audio: LinearPCM, 2 ch
Classical | Runtime: 111min | Included Cover | Size: 4,21GB
Magic was created one starlit night in July 1990, when Luciano Pavarotti, Placido Domingo and José Carreras met onstage at the Baths of Caracalla in Rome and became the Three Tenors. They eschewed competitive instincts and cooperated in the spirit of mutual admiration to create one of the greatest musical events ever. This concert is an awe-inspiring orgy of the greatest hits for the tenor voice. Domingo and Pavarotti sing perfectly. The audience wins as these vocal supermen compete to seduce the hearts of the audience. One moment Domingo brings thrilling fire and pain to E lucevan le stelle from Tosca; the next, Pavarotti rises to heavenly heights in an inspired rendition of Nessun dorma from Turandot. Carreras is the competent little brother, one step behind the greatness of the big brothers from opera's Ponderosa. His singing isn't as captivating as that of the big boys; but his enthusiasm and passion are unrivaled. Mehta exquisitely captures the largeness of this bonanza through the grandiose orchestra. --Barbara Eisner Bayer

Carreras, Domingo, Pavarotti Levine - Paris (1998)

If you think you've heard it all, you're wrong. The three big guys are indeed back, in the shadow of the Eiffel Tower, with a rabidly enthusiastic crowd to welcome them. They sing many favorites-- Granada, Because, Nessun dorma--and there are a pair of medleys: one devoted to love songs, and one called Medley of the World, which ends with a rendition of You'll Never Walk Alone that might just bring tears to your eyes. If the truth be known, the three tenors have put on 8 years since we first heard them together, and a fair amount of bloom is off their rose-like voices--with Domingo's ardency sounding a bit hard-edged, Carreras's tone even more spread than before, and some of Pavarotti's gold tarnished and his breath shorter. Suffice it to say that older CDs by these three formerly-really-great tenors are worth their weight in gold, compared to the bronze you'll find here. But the classy James Levine at the helm keeps the event going with passion, and it's hard not to get caught up in the excitement. --Robert Levine

The Three Tenors Christmas (1999)

DVD Video | Video: PAL 720x576 (4:3) MPEG2 | Audio: AC-3 6CH 448kbps; LinearPCM 2CH
Classical | Runtime: 83min | Included Cover | Size: 4.20GB
As with their other releases, on A Tenors Christmas, the Three Tenors -- José Carreras, Plácido Domingo, and Luciano Pavarotti -- share the spotlight on some songs and take it individually on others. Oh Tannenbaum and Silent Night are among their standout performances as a trio; soloist highlights include Pavarotti's Tu Scendi Dalle Stelle, Carreras' Pregaria, and Domingo's Un Nuevo Siglo. The Tenors are at their best on A Tenors Christmas when performing traditional holiday songs and holiday pop numbers; their version of John Lennon's Happy Christmas/War Is Over is somewhat awkward, but fortunately most of the album delivers holiday cheer with a dramatic, operatic flair.
